Sandy Seeley Walling --

Sandy Seeley Walling's first children's book, A Day at the Beach. A seaside counting book from 1 to 10. is a book born of the frustrations she experienced as a child of dyslexia. "Dyslexia was an unknown problem when I was growing up and I remember many painful evenings trying to learn my spelling words; the letters made no sense to me." Struggling to keep up with the other children, she finally taught herself to read. Ms. Walling emphasizes that she is not a reading specialist, but is however a participant in the painful process of learning to read with a disability. A Day at the Beach. help’s children learn from an early age that there is a correlation between the numbers, words and objects in her book.

Her second book, ABC’s at the Zoo! help’s children understand the difficult concept of upper case and lower case letters by using adult and baby animals as examples of how two objects can be similar, but not look exactly alike. She uses unusual animals in this book and includes a glossary in the back that gives interesting facts about each one.

Ms. Wallings illustrated books include; Max, the Magical Moose; Emily goes to Camp Lobster Claw; Herman the Hermit Crab. and Helga the Hippopotamouse were written by award winning author Elaine Fantle Shimberg.

Ms. Walling has worked in the printing industry most of her life. From the time she walked into her first newspaper pressroom at the age of 10, until she published her first book in 2003, she has designed, administered, marketed and run a printing press. She worked for Maine Medical Center as Manager of their Printing/Mail and Copy facilities; newspapers; printers; an advertising agency, and as Marketing Production Manager for Thos. Moser Cabinetmakers. She was a director of the Maine Graphic Arts Association. She is a freelance Print Production Specialist.
